Dec. 12, 2002 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today includes these announcements:
UVI Fall Semester Ends December 15
Fall 2002 semester classes at the University of the Virgin Islands ended Dec. 8. Final Examinations continue through Dec. 15. The fall semester officially ends on Dec. 15.
December 19 is Fee Payment Deadline for Continuing UVI Students
Continuing students at UVI who registered in November 2002 for spring 2003 classes are advised by UVI's admissions office that the last day to pay fees is Dec. 19, 2002, at 4 p.m. Registration for spring 2003 is not complete until payment is received. Continuing students who do not complete the spring 2003 registration process will have to re-register during the late registration period, Jan. 9-10, 2003.
New students will register on January 8, 2003.
Home Decorations and Gift Items Display Set on St. Croix December 12-13
The general public is invited to a Home Decorations and Gift Items Display at the UVI Research and Extension Center, Room 133, on the St. Croix campus, Thursday and Friday, Dec. 12 and 13. The display, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, is sponsored by the Family and Consumer Science Program of UVI's Cooperative Extension Service. For more information call 692-4094.
St. Thomas Campus Bookstore Offering Clothing at Sale Prices
The UVI Bookstore on the St. Thomas campus is conducting an end-of-semester sale, offering 50 to 75 percent off selected clothing items only at the Merchandise Store. All are invited to stop by and check out the sale for that last-minute Christmas shopping. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Direct questions to 693-1561.
'Folk Nativity' Scheduled December 14-15 at Reichhold Center
UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts will present the musical "Folk Nativity" at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 15. "Folk Nativity" was written by Caribbean dramatists Alwin Bully and Einstar LeBlanc. It is the story of an eccentric hermit on trial for stealing bananas. The action is set in a rural village, with contemporary characters in traditional Biblical roles. The musical features a cast of more than 50 Virgin Islanders, including reigning "Calypso King of the World" St. Clair "King Whadablee" De Silva and Lee Hodge, formerly of the group G-Storm.
Reichhold Center Director David Edgecombe will serve as the production's director, and Josephine Thomas-Lewis is the musical director. Tickets are $15, $10 and $5, and are available at all Reichhold ticket outlets: Krystals and Gifts Galore, Modern Music stores, Parrot Fish, the UVI Bookstore (St. Thomas campus), Connections on St. John and the Reichhold Center box office. All Invited to Join UVI's Crucian Festival Troupe
The public, as well as the UVI Community, is invited to join in UVI's 2003 Crucian Festival. A look at the troupe's costume designs is now available on the Current Events page of the UVI web site.
The UVI Festival floupe (a float and troupe combination) theme is "From the School House to the Technology Park: Educating Our Community Throughout Time For a Golden Future!" The Crucian Festival Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003. Sign-up fees are $50 for UVI students, and $80 for staff, faculty and the general public. Participants will receive a costume and refreshments during the parade. Imagination Brass and Steel Pan Ambassadors will provide the music for the floupe.

Support Sought for Lady Bucs Christmas Season Play
UVI Assistant Athletics Director Curtis Gilpin is encouraging the UVI community to come out and support the UVI Lady Buccaneers basketball squad, which will host five NCAA teams during a special Christmas season scheduled for Dec. 16 through Jan. 5.
"This promises to be good basketball," Gilpin said. "Our Lady Bucs deserve our support."
The opener, on Monday, Dec. 16, will pit the Lady Bucs against Eastern Mennonite University's Lady Royals, who will be visiting from Harrisonburg, Va. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. in the UVI Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas campus. Contrary to earlier reports, admission at the door is $2 for adults and $1 for children under 12.
