Dec. 10, 2002 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board for Dec. 9 includes these announcements:
Ice Show at Sports and Fitness Center Cancelled
The University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center has announced that the ice show scheduled this month at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas campus has been cancelled.
All Invited to Join UVI's Crucian Festival Troupe
The public, as well as the UVI Community, is invited to join in UVI's 2003
Crucian Festival. A look at the troupe's costume designs, created by Wayne James, is now available on the Current Events page of the UVI web site.
The UVI Festival Floupe (a float and troupe combination) theme is "From the School House to the Technology Park: Educating Our Community Throughout Time For a Golden Future!" The Crucian Festival Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003. Sign-up fees are $50 for UVI students, and $80 for staff, faculty and the general public. Participants will receive a costume and refreshments during the parade. Imagination Brass and Steel Pan Ambassadors will provide the music for the floupe.

UVI Fall Semester Nearing End
UVI's Fall 2002 Semester classes ended Dec. 8. Final examinations have started, and continue through Dec. 15. The fall semester officially ends on Dec. 15.
Lady Bucs Announced Fall Basketball Home Season
UVI's Lady Buccaneer basketball squad opens a seven-game fall home season Monday, Dec. 16. The Bucs will host five teams from the United States during a three-week period. Four of the squads are from NCAA Division III schools and one is a Division II contender.
The opener will be against Eastern Mennonite University's Lady Royals, who will be visiting from Harrisonburg, Va. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. in the UVI Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas campus. Admission is free.
The UVI Lady Bucs are coming off a successful 9-1 season in Puerto Rico's ODI league. UVI Coach Cyril Benjamin's 11-woman squad is led by graduate student Elbe Brathwaite, and seniors Natasha Pickering, Latoya Garvey and Chalma Moorhead.
Other teams visiting St. Thomas for the Lady Bucs' winter season include Berea (Ky.) College, Scranton (Pa.) College, Emmanuel College from Boston, Mass., and Wheeling Jesuit University, the division II squad, from Wheeling, W.Va.

Holiday Baking Workshop to Feature Sweet Bread
The Family and Consumer Sciences Program of UVI's Cooperative Extension Service will offer a holiday baking workshop in two sessions on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Ramona Blades Community Center in Kirwan Terrace adjacent to the St. Thomas campus. The early session will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. An evening session is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. For registration and more information contact Blanche Mills at 693-1072 or 693-1080. Class size is limited.
"Folk Nativity" Scheduled December 14-15 at Reichhold Center
UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts will present the musical "Folk Nativity" at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 15. "Folk Nativity" was written by Caribbean dramattists Alwin Bully and Einstar LeBlanc.
It is the story of an eccentric hermit on trial for stealing bananas. The action is set in a rural village, with contemporary characters in traditional Biblical roles. A cast of more than 50 Virgin Islanders, including reigning "Calypso King of the World" St. Clair "King Whadablee" De Silva and Lee Hodge, formerly of the group G-Storm. Reichhold Center Director David Edgecombe is the production's director, and Josephine Thomas-Lewis is the musical director.
Tickets are $15, $10 and $5, and are available at all Reichhold ticket outlets: Krystal Gifts Galore, Modern Music stores, Parrot Fish, the UVI Bookstore (St. Thomas campus), Connections on St. John and the Reichhold Center box office. For more information contact the box office at 693-1559.
Free SBDC Seminar to Focus on Manager Development
UVI's Small Business Development Center will conduct a small business seminar entitled "Seven Personality Styles for Coaching and Managing Employee Performance" from 9:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the UVI-Small Business Development Center Training Facility, at Nisky Center, St. Thomas. Admission to the seminar is free. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required.
Brenda Mabry of the Boss Effectiveness Institute will be the presenter. Mabry has been a management consultant for business organizations for more than 20 years. Her company specializes in the professional development of managers and assists organizations in the areas of planning and conflict resolution. Agronomy Workshop Set for St. Croix on December 12
Agronomy Program Leader at the Agricultural Experiment Station Dr. Elide Valencia will conduct an Agronomy workshop at 5 p.m. Dec. 12. The workshop, entitled "Legumes to Augment Forage and Small Ruminant Production in the U.S. Virgin Islands," will highlight research results with the use of tropical legumes suited for heavy clay soils. Interested participants will meet at the east end entrance of the REC Building on the St. Croix campus and then proceed to meeting place. For details call 692-4020.
