VIHA CHIEF: SECTION 8 CHECKS TO GO OUT BY DEC. 11

Dec. 5, 2002 – This month's V.I. Housing Authority Section 8 checks will go out by Dec. 11, executive director Ray Fonseca said in a release issued on Wednesday.
Fonseca had announced on Nov. 25 that the checks for December housing assistance payments and utility allowances had been delayed because of technical difficulty with the authority's computer equipment. He said in the Wednesday release that VIHA's Information Technology Department is still working on the problem.
Section 8 is a federal housing program that provides rent subsidies so low-income
households can rent privately owned apartments as an alternative to those in public housing communities. The checks go to landlords, agents and tenants involved in the program.
Fonseca could not be reached on Thursday for comment.
