HOTLINES FOR SUSPECTED EDUCATION FUNDING FRAUD

Dec. 3, 2002 – As part of its compliance agreement with the federal government, the Education Department is publishing telephone numbers to call if you suspect misuse of federal education funds.
Education Department spokesman Juel Anderson said that she doesn't know if there have been any reports because the numbers go to a federal office.
Those suspecting such misuse of funds are asked to call the federal Education Department's Office of the Inspector General at (800) 647-8733, which is the same as (800) MISUSED. Another option is to call the U.S. Interior Department at (800) 424-5081.
For local information on reporting misuse, call the Education Department's compliance monitor, Oliver Elcock, at 774-0100, ext. 3034.
