June 24, 2002 – JUNE 21: Each year at this time, the Chariot of the Sun stops its northward journey. After a celebratory lovefest, the Sun God passes the reins to the Sun Goddess for the journey south. There are many stories of both god and goddess of the Sun riding the chariot through the sky. The constellation of Auriga, the Chariot Driver, stands right next to the zodiac, the main highway across the sky. The solstice gateway leads the Sun from Gemini into Cancer. The solstice points, both summer and winter, are important direction markers for all peoples who live close to the Earth and the cycles of Nature. Do you know where your Summer Solstice point is? Watch the sun rise and set on Friday and over the weekend to find these turning points in your locale.
NEW YORKERS, I was recently told that if you watch at dawn from a high building on Solstice, you can see the rising Sun shine wash down the numbered City streets that run east and west. Is it true?
Just three days after Summer Solstice, a rare third eclipse makes a grand finale for this eclipse season with the June 24 Full Moon. It is a penumbral eclipse, when the Moon catches the outskirts of the Earth's shadow. This will be an interesting moment after the last two eclipses, as the energy shifts from the intensity of the planetary pattern in Gemini and Sagittarius. This Full Moon, right after Solstice, when the Sun enters the Cancer gateway, is in Capricorn. With these signs of birth and manifestation, we will soon start to see increasing results of the last two eclipses that were aligned with the powerful Pluto-Saturn opposition.
This Full Moon, with the Sun in the sign of the Great Mother, has other cosmic feminine energies at play as well. The Moon and Sun will be in an active dynamic with Black Moon Lilith, now in early Aries. As Lilith's creative Shakti power ignites the fiery originality of Aries, fresh initiatives will be flashing around like fireworks. Playwright George Bernard Shaw described Lilith as the first one in the Garden of Eden, who realized that in order to survive she must find out how to renew herself like the serpent could by casting its skin. She found out that:
"You imagine what you desire. You will what you imagine; and at last you create what you will: To conceive. That is the word that means both the beginning in imagination and the end in creation."
In Aries she clarifies our desires and insists on integrity in what we will and do. She urges us to take risks and follow our hearts into the unknown, into the vast wildness and awesome beauty of life and love. Cancer seeks security and stability, yet there is little familiar ground as we move into new territory. We use the Cancer sensitivity to feel our way into a new blossoming. Those who have gone before may offer the wisdom of their experience, but each soul has its own path. New partnerships are likely to be formed under the influence of this eclipse. Lilith attractions have the mark of destiny and require letting go of any expectations.
The Goddess of Love is also in a fiery sign, Leo – courage to the Lion-hearted! She is in romantic mood and wants to be appreciated. Opposite the planet Neptune in Aquarius, Venus evokes mermaids and melusines, goddesses of sea and mists. Love may be elusive, as Neptune can be dreamy or indulgent, unrealistic or idealistic, seductive or seducible. Yet this highly creative aspect is full of poetry, music, dancing and drama. It works best under the influence – of spirituality and aesthetic expression. Otherwise you might find yourself in a soap opera. Love is a truly spiritual state, not for the wimpy, wispy, wishful or self-centered. Friendship is a fine art and part of love.
More celestial footprints of the goddess sparkle in the conjunction of Uranus, the Awakener, and the asteroid Pallas. In Aquarius, the Goddess of Wisdom steps back to see From a Distance, as that song goes. As the Weaver, perhaps she is weaving more enlightening vibrancy into our strands of DNA. She seeks colleagues who are turning on more brain cells to be higher-minded and commune with the stars. Will you consider (con=with, sider=stars) joining her club?
