MAKING WAVES: WHAT'S THERE TO LISTEN TO

Feb. 28, 2002 – Here is some of the locally produced and hosted special-interest radio programing coming up. This is a free listing feature, updated on an ongoing basis. For details, see the editor's note below.
WIUJ Radio (non-commercial station) – 102.9 FM, St. Thomas
"Sunday Classics with Charlene," Sunday, March 3, noon-1 p.m. — Featured this week is Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major, as performed by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Andras Ligeti with pianist Jeno Jando. Many music scholars consider the Hungarian-born Franz Liszt (1811-1886), a concert artist at the age of 12, the most influential pianist of the 19th century; some say he was the greatest pianist of all time. His phenomenal technical ability as a performer was coupled with a sure musical command and an innovative temperament as a composer.
"The Doug Lewis Show," Sunday, March 3, 1-3 p.m. — Doug will sample the sounds of artists booked for the coming South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, including Caroline Herring, Alejandro Escovedo, Bottle Rockets, Jim Lauderdale and Jon Dee Graham. Up for attention on the birthday beat are Willie Chambers of the Chambers Brothers, country songwriter Don Gibson, Jennifer Warnes, Michael Pender of the Searchers and Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead. In the studio, there'll be a visit by Nikki Emerich to talk about the next Pistarckle Theater production, "Rumors."
