1 OF 3 SUSPECTS CHARGED IN STABBING

April 17, 2001 – Government prosecutors have declined to prosecute two of three persons charged in connection with a Saturday night stabbing in Nadir. Assistant Attorney General John Wilks said Tuesday that not enough information existed in the preliminary investigation to charge Pablo Matos and Felix Jimenez with assault with intent to commit murder. The charges can be brought at a later date.
In an advice-of-rights hearing Tuesday before Judge Rhys S. Hodge probable cause was found to charge a third suspect Roberto Lopez. He was placed on $75,000 bail and faces formal charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapons.
During the proceeding, Lopez's immigration status was also discussed extensively. Matos, Jiminez and Lopez had been arrested in connection with the stabbing, minutes before midnight, of Zephir Buvanet.
