The trip from St. Thomas and back last Friday on the new Boston Harbor Cruises ship was fantastic!
Everyone was buzzing and excited about the crossings. The boat is large, beautiful and offers a very smooth and quiet ride, gliding across the waves with ease and speed. The lounges are well-appointed with comfortable seating, a snack bar, and TV monitors for viewing.
Everyone aboard was truly very upbeat and extremely satisfied with the ship and its crew, who by the way, were very helpful and proud of their craft.
Unfortunately, there was only one mishap, an act of malicious vandalism. Just prior to departure at 10:30 a.m. from St. Thomas, a schoolboy, walking on the pier with other classmates, threw a rock at the ship, hitting and breaking a $4,000 window on the bridge. Now the new $10 million dollar ship has cardboard taped over the space, as no glass is available to have it repaired on island, and as a sad symbol of wrongful behavior by a local resident.
One thing is sure, we now have a choice in traveling between St. Thomas and St. Croix. With a current round trip fare of only $40 plus tax, it is critical that we all patronize Boston Harbor Cruises if it is to remain and provide us with an alternative means of transportation between the two islands. We all know how much it costs to fly any of the three airlines on this same route, each charging fares ranging from $130.00 to over $200.00 for a round-trip fare.
If Boston Harbor Cruises is to continue, then we all have to support it by using it!
