LAND DONATION RELOCATES SCHOOL TRASH BINS

After hearing complaints from students about smelly, rodent attracting trash bins near their junior high school, a St. Croix family has donated land to clear up the problem.
On Tuesday, Linda and Nelson Morales gave the V.I. government an acre of land south of John H. Woodson Junior High School in Estate Glynn so that public trash bins adjacent to the school’s entrance can be removed. The donation follows a Senate Committee on Youth and Human Services hearing last week where students told senators about issues affecting their lives.
One issue brought up by students of John H Woodson was the often overflowing garbage bins across from the school.
"I applaud the students who testified for bringing this concern before the committee," said Sen. Vargrave Richards, chairman of the Committee on Youth and Human Services. "They are also commended for being proactive about their education and environment."
Arrangements for the removal of the bins will be coordinated by G&T Trucking, a trucking company that contracts with the Department of Public Works; the Department of Agriculture and Public Works. Richards said G&T Trucking has also committed to fencing the new collection area.
"It is refreshing and heartwarming to know that there are individuals in our community who are willing to extend a caring hand to our youth," Richards said. "We are doing all that we can to address students’ concerns, and this is just one example of what can result when residents extend there hands and hearts."
