DENMARK/USVI TRADE FAIR TO MARK TRANSFER DAY

The Royal Danish Consulate of the Virgin Islands will celebrate the Transfer Day holiday with a Denmark/USVI trade fair on both St. Croix and St. Thomas from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Traditionally, St. Thomas was the only island to host the annual trade fair that honors the transfer of the Virgin Islands from Denmark to the United States. In an effort to revive the annual celebrations, the consulate extended the historical celebrations to both islands.
In addition, the Office of the Governor in conjunction with the St. Croix Friends of Denmark and the St. Croix Landmarks Society will commemorate Transfer Day/Danish Heritage Day at 10 a.m. at the Christiansted Bandstand. Guest speakers will be Danish Ambassador Michael Morch and St. Croix educator Ruth Beagles.
The St. Croix fair will be held on the north end of Queen Cross Street in downtown Christiansted, which will be closed to vehicles. Entertainment will be provided by Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights and music from local school bands. A variety of local vendors will be on hand with USVI and Danish products.
The St. Thomas celebration will once again take place on Main Street as Danish and USVI vendors fill the streets and local school bands perform.
All vendors on St. Croix specializing in locally made items and other crafts persons interested in participating in the trade fair should contact Gregory Davila at 773-1404. Vendors will be assessed a $25 fee to go toward next year's event.
