SCOUTMASTER TRAINING TO BE HELD MARCH 24

March 22, 2001 – The St. Croix Boy Scouts organization is looking for adult volunteers to "take a dare and become a Boy Scout leader."
A Scoutmaster Fundamentals training program will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Howard M. Wall Boy Scout Camp near Great Pond. Participants also will take part in overnight camping March 30-31.
New scout troop host organizations – schools, churches or other community groups – also are being sought, according to a release from the St. Croix District, Virgin Islands Council Inc., Boy Scouts of America.
The release offeres these statistics concerning scouting: It reaches 25 percent of youth nationwide. One percent of youths involved will use scouting skills to save someone's life, 17 percent will become scouting volunteers and 18 percent as scouts will develop hobbies of lifelong interest. And rarely will a youth involved in scouting appear in juvenile court.
To obtain more information about attending scoutmaster training or hosting a troop, call senior district executive Juan E. Vazquez at 773-3115 during business hours or 772-4847 evenings.
