CRUCIAN ARTIST OPENS GALLERY IN C'STED

St. Croix-born artist Danica David will toast the opening of her new art gallery in the heart of historic downtown Christiansted with a reception at 8 p.m. April 6.
The first exhibition at Danica Art Gallery will spotlight the contemporary folk-art works of David as well as four other local artists: portraitist Nolan Booty, multimedia artist Jean Booty (Nolan’s wife), realist Niarus Benjamin and contemporary artist LaVaughn Belle.
David, whose work has been shown in France and New York, says she expects Danica Art Gallery to not just showcase local artists, but to inspire St. Croix.
"I just want my gallery to be used as a vehicle through which the community can become more involved in art," David said, adding that she hopes to begin offering art classes for local youth later this year.
Danica Art gallery is at 54 King Street in downtown Christiansted, in the heart of the Christansted Historic District and across the street from Government House. It will be open from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. In addition to original artworks and prints, fine art reproductions, sculptures and note cards will be available.
Danica Art Gallery can also be visited on the Internet a www.danicaartvi.com.
