MARY RIVERA WINS NEW CAR AT DIVI CASINO

As Mary Rivera played the slot machines at Divi Carina Bay Casino last Sunday night, she had no idea that her name would be the one picked to win a new car from over 100,000 other names in the drawing drum.
But when the casino’s general manager, Barbara Shattles, pulled the winning ticket, Rivera became the proud owner of a brand-new Chevrolet Cavalier.
"I must have had around 60 tickets in the drum, but I didn’t think I would win," said an overjoyed Rivera. "I think I’m in shock!"
The crowds came early to Divi Carina Bay Casino on Sunday, as the casino gave away their first car to celebrate its first anniversary.
"We were filled to capacity by 6 p.m.," said Table Games Manager Anton Kuipers.
The overflow crowd of people stayed in the parking lot, not wanting to risk missing their name called for the drawing. Divi Carina Bay Casino employees distributed "We’re Won Year Old" shirts to all the guests both inside and outside.
"We gave away 3,000 shirts in two days," said Manager on Duty Al Jenkins.
When the 9 p.m. drawing finally arrived, Shattles drew a ticket out of the huge barrel and immediately brought it up to the stage to Jenkins. The entire casino cheered when he read Rivera’s name. Rivera made her way up to the stage to more applause as everyone shared in her excitement of winning a brand-new car.
The fun didn’t end then, as the Casino proceeded to give $200 away every 30 minutes from 9:30 p.m. until midnight.
"We just wanted to find another way to thank everyone for coming out to celebrate with us," said Shattles. "We always want to keep the party going here at the casino."
Divi Carina Bay is open seven days a week from noon to 4 a.m., Sunday through Thursday; and from noon to 6 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays. The casino is operated by Treasure Bay V.I. Corporation, a casino management company based in Biloxi, Mississippi. For additional information, call 773.9700 x790.
