The challenging Magens Bay 10K (6.2 mi.) on Sunday morning at 7 a.m. attracted 27 runners. This was a high turnout for a strenuous event which starts at Magens beach, progresses out to the end of Peterborg Point and ends up back at Magens Bay.
A short, probably welcome, shower did not slow down the first finisher, Adam Thill, of St. John, who was well ahead of the pack in a time of 42:38. He was followed by Isaak Aronsson at 44:11 and then by Peter Altier, of St. John, in 47:48.
The first two women runners, both of St. John, appeared to effortlessly conquer the hilly course. Louise DePuy crossed the finish line in 51:57 and Kathie McMurtrie followed at 52:33. Charlotte Morris was the third female runner with a time of 56:07.
The Magens Bay 10K race was conducted by the St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners. The next race for St. Thomas/St. John is the Eight Tuff Miles in St. John on Saturday at 7:15 a.m. St. Thomas runners can pre-register at Players and at Going Seanile. The start is at the Cruz Bay ballpark. St. Thomas runners should take the 6 a.m. ferry over to St. John. The next STAR race, the Silk Greenery 15K (9.3 mi.), is on March 4, at 6:30 a.m. at Silk Greenery in Fort Mylner Shopping Center. Registration is before the race at 6 a.m.
