TURNBULL TO TAP PAM RICHARDS FOR TOURISM

When Gov. Charles W. Turnbull returns from Washington, D.C., this week he is expected to name a new Tourism commissioner-the fourth he has nominated during his tenure. Administration sources reported that Turnbull will tap St. Croix Assistant Tourism Commissioner Pam Richards for the post.
Richards reportedly has been interested in the job since Turnbull took office in 1999; Monique Sibilly-Hodge, who has been acting commissioner a number of times, has said she is not interested in the position on a permanent basis.
Most recently, Sibilly-Hodge has been acting commissioner since Rafael Jackson resigned in October, less than a year after he assumed the position.
Government House spokesman James O'Bryan said last week that Turnbull had several names under consideration. He would not comment when asked if Richards was the final choice.
Jackson was preceded by Michael Bornn, whose nomination was withdrawn before he could be confirmed by the Senate. Bornn replaced Clement "Cain" Magras, Turnbull's first choice as Tourism commissioner, after the Senate rejected the Magras nomination.
