'SALTY NUTS' FROM OHIO PLANNING A PARTY

The V.I. Buckeyes are getting back into action with a First Anniversary Party on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Created a year ago on St. Thomas, the organization consists of Virgin Islands residents who were born in Ohio, formerly lived in Ohio or have just about any other tenuous connection with The Buckeye State. Inaugural year activities included several cocktail sips and a picnic at Magens Bay featuring native Ohio cuisine and the Broadway musical song "Why, oh Why, oh Why, oh, Why Did I Ever Leave Ohio?"
"We don't take things too seriously," says Buckeyes president Carol Lotz, who also refers to the membership as the "Salty Nuts."
The anniversary party is strictly a social event and definitely "casual," Lotz says. It will take place at the Estate Anna's Retreat home of members Jim and Vivian Crites. It's a pot luck, and attendees are asked to bring not only Ohio food and music but also "games, new members, your wildest party garb – anything to prove we are not stuffy, dull or frumpy. Who is this we are proving it to, you ask? Never mind. It's important to maintain our self-image."
Being conversant about the prospects of the Indians, Reds, Bengals, Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes is an asset but is not mandatory. Any individuals with bona fide Ohio ties, including visitors on island, are welcome.
For directions on how to get to the Crites residence or to learn more about the organization, contact Lotz by calling 777-3579 or 690-1386, or e-mailing to carol@islands.vi.
