STUDY GRANTS AVAILABLE FROM TOURISM

The 2001 Caribbean Tourism Association Michael Manley Foundation Scholarship, and other study grants, are now available to Virgin Islanders.
The Department of Tourism announced applications may now be picked up at its executive offices and visitors bureaus. Applications for the studies may also be submitted online..
The scholarship was established in 1997 in the memory of the former Prime Minister of Jamaica to assist in producing highly skilled Caribbean tourism professionals. It is awarded to students in the Caribbean who wish to pursue a master's degree in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Two different 2001 study grants are also being awarded by the Caribbean Tourism Organization. One grant program is for persons pursuing any post-secondary level of studies in tourism.
The other grants are being offered to persons currently working in the tourism sector for whom a second language would be an asset to their job. The grant would offer an opportunity for intensive language study in a English, Spanish or French speaking Caribbean country.
Other sponsors of the grants and scholarship include American Airlines, American Express, Architectural Digest and Travel Agent Magazine.
To apply online use the organization's website at www.caribtourism. For application kits at the Tourism Department's offices, call 774-8784, 776-6450 or 773-0495 in St. Croix. The deadline to submit applications for both programs is April 27, 2001. The winners will be announced by May 2001 at the latest, the Tourism Department release said.
