SAVAN SHOOTING VICTIM DIES AT HOSPITAL

A 22-year-old St. Thomas man who was shot in Savan Wednesday night died early Thursday morning after undergoing emergency surgery at the Roy L. Schneider Hospital. He suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen, sources have confirmed.
Macali Wheatley was found by police on General Gade near Red Ball Grocery and was later transported to the hospital by a friend. Police patrol units were responding to reports of shots fired in Savan when Wheatley was found.
Police have not commented publicly on the case, which has been upgraded to murder with Wheatley's death. Anyone with information on the shooting should contact homicide investigators at 774-2196, the emergency number 911 or the confidential crime line at 777-8711.
Wheatley's death brings to 17 the number of murders committed this year in the territory. There have been 10 on St. Thomas and seven on St. Croix.
