SHIP CREWS CLEAN BEACHES

The Florida Caribbean Cruise Association's Caribbean annual beach clean-up will be held this week on St. Thomas and St. Croix.
On Monday 150 crew members from Carnival Cruise Lines' Destiny and Royal Caribbean International's Monarch of the Seas will get to work on John Brewer's Beach on St. Thomas' west end.
Wednesday 75 crew members from Carnival's victory will clean up at Target Wall and Fort Frederick beaches on St. Croix.
"The clean up efforts are stages to enable the FCCA member lines to reinforce their partnership between the cruise industry and their partner destinations, thus tangibly demonstrating their concern for the destinations they call upon, as well as to promote the importance of environmental awareness," Monique Sibilly-Hodge, acting Tourism commissioner, said in a press release.
On St. Thomas, Tourism, the West Indian Company Ltd., the St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce, St. Thomas Rescue and the University of the Virgin Islands will host a barbecue and volleyball tournament for the workers after the clean-up.
St. Croix sponsors include the Fredriksted Economic Development Association, St. Croix Hotel and Tourism Association, Anti Litter and Beautification, Bellows International and Abramson Enterprises.
