RAPE, ASSAULT CHARGED IN WEEKEND INCIDENT

Territorial Court Judge Audrey Thomas-Francis on Monday found probable cause to charge Irvin Smith with rape and aggravated assault.
Smith is alleged to have sexually attacked a woman at her home early Saturday, according to police accounts. Police officer Maha Hamdan testified that she responded to the assault call at the woman's home and found the alleged victim screaming for help.
The woman told police she had been assaulted by Smith, who pushed her onto her bed and touched her in a sexual manner. Hamdan also testified that the woman suffered minor injuries in the incident.
Thomas-Francis allowed Smith to post 10 percent of his $76,000 bail and set conditions on his release into a friend's custody, including an order not to make contact with his accuser.
Smith will enter a plea to the criminal charges brought by the government when he is arraigned later this month.
