MARINE’S HIT HOLE IN ONE FOR TOYS FOR TOTS

Children on St. Croix will benefit from the 5th Annual St. Croix Marine Corps Toys for Tots Golf Tournament that was held Sunday at the Carambola Golf Course.
The tournament was held under near perfect conditions, said tournament co-director and former Marine Jim Davenport. The first-place, all-Marine team consisted of Terry Sharpe, Kevin Shea, William Borden and Ian Filiss with a team score of 58.
The first-place team was Tony McDaniel, Jeff Lee, Sara Howe and Pucci Byrd with a team score of 54. Coming in second with a 54 as well was Greg Hamilton, Sam Graci, John Reid. Finishing third with a 56 was Fred Anduze, Sari Anduze, Ezzie Wynter and Stacy Payne.
Nailing the longest drive for the men was Ezzie Wynter while Pam Kantowski hit it for the women.
Closest to the pin for the men was Robert Ruach and his female counterpart was Joanie Miner.
But the real winners of the tournament were the children of St. Croix, said co-director Carl Gotts.
"Our success is a direct result of the generous and continual support we receive from the St. Croix business community," he said.
Toys for Tots ensures that no needy child goes without a toy at Christmas. Collecting toys for the cause has been a Marine Corps tradition for more than 54 years, with the St. Croix association distributing toys through the American Red Cross, Bethlehem House, The Women’s Coalition and The Gideons’ Angel Tree since 1995.
