PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING WITH EPA POSTPONED

The Senate Committee on Planning and Environmental Protection meeting set for Friday, Oct. 6 has been postponed at the request of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. A tentative rescheduled date of Oct. 18 has been set to hear testimony on wastewater issues, according to a statement from committee Chairman Adlah "Foncie" Donastorg.
The meeting will focus on EPA's proposed denial of the Department of Public Works' application for secondary sewage treatment waivers. Such a move will force DPW to engage in secondary treatment of all wastewater, the statement said. As EPA is expected to provide much of the testimony at the Senate hearing it was necessary to reschedule. EPA officials have also requested more time to compile a comprehensive administrative record, according to the statement.
