The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority has, once again, reminded the public that hanging banners and posters from utility poles is dangerous and violates V.I. law.
WAPA spokesperson Patricia Blake Simmonds said Friday hanging anything from utility poles requires a permit from the Public Works Department and WAPA's approval.
However Simmonds also said, "WAPA will not consent to the hanging of banners from utility poles."
Banners get tangled in electrical lines during windstorms and can cause power outages, she said. She also said that staples and other attachments used to hang posters can puncture linemen's protective gear, causing injuries.
