FOUR WAVES MOVE WEST; ONE IS BEING WATCHED

Four westward moving tropical waves dot the late Thursday afternoon weather map for the Eastern Caribbean.
Waves are located along 62 degrees west longitude, 52 west longitude, 37 degrees west longitude, and 26 degrees west longitude. The Virgin Islands lie at approximately 64 degrees west longitude
Only one wave is being monitored closely for signs of development, according to Knight Quality Stations meteorologist Alan Archer.
"They are for the most part ill-defined and weak," he said. However, Archer cautioned that the wave at 26 west "should be watched closely over the next several days."
He said it is not well developed at the present time but computer models are leaning toward it developing further in the next few days. The waves are all moving to the west at about 17 miles an hour.
Through the weekend, the V.I. should remain under fair skies with daytime high temperatures at 88 degrees and the overnight low at 78, according to Archer.
For the mariners, the winds are easterly at 15-20 knots with seas at three to five feet. Weather conditions are being influenced by a high pressure system sitting to the north of Bermuda.
"It will facilitate the movement of a moderate easterly trade wind flow across the local area through the weekend," Archer said.
Archer's forecasts can be heard at 774-4786. Clicking on the rainbow at the top of the Source menu will also provide a full forecast from Weather Underground.
