Police officers were summoned to the Nadir community near the Humane Society Animal Shelter around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday by reports of a man being shot. Edner St. Ville, 40, of Estate Bovoni was shot four times in the left side, elbow and arm, according to Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Annette Raimer.
As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Ville was in stable condition after emergency surgery, according to Maureen Venzen, Roy L. Schneider Hospital administrator.
St. Ville told police that two occupants of a blue Honda Civic, known to him only by sight, shot him while he was walking according to Raimer.
Investigators, acting on a tip from citizens, maintained a watch over the nearby Nadir Esso station where the two suspects reportedly had been seen. Sources said two men wearing white T-shirts and camouflage hats were taken into custody near the gas station about 45 minutes after the shooting.
It could not be learned Wednesday whether the two were formally charged. They reportedly were transported by police detectives from Nadir to the Investigation Bureau in Nisky Center for interrogation.
Meantime, police investigators are probing an armed robbery Monday night.
Raimer said Carol Shoy was attacked at about 9:20 p.m. by two masked men who stormed her vehicle after she pulled up to the offices of Lew Henley's Sewage Disposal company, adjacent to the Bovoni landfill.
One suspect took her handbag and ordered her to lie down on the ground. The second suspect snatched the neck chain she was wearing while the first suspect asked her "Where's the big man?" – a reference to Henley.
When Shoy told the suspects that Henley had already left, they fled the area.
Raimer said police have classified the case as first-degree-robbery.
