HEALTH CONFERENCE SET FOR TUESDAY

The third annual Virgin Islands State Health Insurance Assistance Program (VI SHIP) conference for senior citizens and retirees will be held Tuesday at Marriott Frenchman's Reef Resort from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The conference, announced by Lt. Gov. Gerard Luz James 11, titled "Managing and Accessing Quality Health Care Services in the V.I.," is open to the public and there is no charge.
The aim of the session is to provide information on patient's rights, responsibilities, self-advocacy, understanding health care insurance regulations and improving the patient-physician relationship. It is an opportunity for older people to understand their health care options.
The federally funded SHIP program is under the auspices of the Office of the Lt. Governor. "Consumers of health care services . . . must realize they, too, have a very important role to play in order to receive accountable, quality health care service," said James, in urging the older population to attend.
Seating arrangements for the conference, which includes luncheon, are limited. To register on St. Thomas, call (340) 774-7915 or 776-8311, ext. 1005.
