DPNR advises the public that the closed season for conch begins July 1 and ends September 30. The whelk closed season commenced April 1 and will end on September 30. During these peeriods, persons are not permitted to engage in fishing for conch, whelk, or possess any conch, whelk or parts of same, with the exception of empty shells.
All commercial fisherman, local businesses, resstaurants and wholesale companies are allowed ten days after the beginning of the closed season to liquidate their stock.
