SHOOTINGS AND ATTEMPTED RAPE REPORTED

A St. Thomas resident was injured Saturday night by gunfire in the Berg's Home area. The victim, described by authorities only as a "young male," was hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a volley of shots was heard in the Hospital Ground neighborhood. The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, hospital sources said over the weekend.
The shooting took place around 8 p.m. Saturday, and some residents said they heard two different volleys of shots ring out.
A parked car was badly damaged by the gunfire, according to residents who spoke on the condition that they not be identified. "A tow truck had to be called to remove the bullet-riddled car," one resident said Sunday morning.
Police on St. Thomas are also investigating reports that someone was shot on Veterans Drive early Saturday morning. As of Sunday, however, no one was hospitalized with injuries and no further information was available. The reported shooting on the Waterfront came about 30 minutes after a citizen called 911 to report shots fired in the area.
In other police news, an investigation continues into an incident of attempted rape at Lindqvist beach early Sunday morning. The victim called police around 6:30 a.m. to report the attempted assault at the undeveloped, isolated beach just east of Smith Bay.
Lindqvist beach was the site of a sexual attack on a woman earlier this year. At that time, a woman who was sunbathing was attacked by two minors who tied her, dragged her into the bushes, beat and raped her. Two 17-year-old boys were charged with aggravated rape in the March case.
No further information was available from police on Sunday's attempted rape.
