With summer simmering on the horizon, it's time for the local nightlife to heat up. Iggies Beach Bar and Grill at the Bolongo Bay Beach Club will be doing its part, hosting four weeks of Saturday night Karaoke competitions in June.
The preliminary "Star Search" events are set for June 3, 10 and 17. On each of those nights, a panel of three judges will select the top two performers in each of four categories — local male, local female, local duo and tourist. These winners will collect some prizes and be invited back to compete in the final Karaoke sing-off on June 24, when the grand prize will be a getaway for two to the Divi Carina Bay Resort and Casino on St. Croix, including airfare and dinner.
Singers ready and willing to take their chances can call Bolongo events coordinator Dolores Rodrigues at 775-1800, ext. 2510, fax a message to her at 693-2616, or just show up a bit before 9 p.m. to sign up on any of the first three Saturday nights.
The Karaoke competitions will run from 9 to 11 p.m. Iggies is open on Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
