NEXT WEEK IS LAST VISIT FOR DESTINY

Next week’s visit of Carnival Cruise Line’s Destiny to St. Croix will be the last for the mega cruise ship.
After its visit, Carnival plans to put the ship in dry dock for maintenance and then begin experimental cruises to other ports, according to Dalton Associates, the company that runs the Harbour Night street festival when the Destiny is in port every other week.
While the Destiny won’t be returning, its sister ship Victory will pickup the bi-weekly St. Croix stop on Oct. 25 when the 2000-2001 cruise season begins.
Between May, the start of the slow summer season, and the end of the year the Carnival ship Triumph will call every other Wednesday, a continuance of its current schedule, according to Dalton Associates.
But because the Triumph leaves port at 5 p.m., unlike midnight for the Destiny, there will be no Harbour Night festivities until October.
Accompanying the Destiny’s last call next week will be the last Harbour Night party until next season, said Dalton Associates’ Kim Holdridge.
"Come out and celebrate the last Harbour Night scheduled until October," he said. "There will be lots of food, music and entertainment."
Also scheduled for next week when the Destiny calls is the cultural production "Crucian Fruits." The production is put on by Dalton Associates in an effort to give cruise ships calling on the island an activity for their passengers.
