PANEL OKAYS LITTLE ST. JAMES DOCK EXPANSION

A permit for dock expansion at Little St. James island won unanimous approval Thursday from the Senate Planning and Environmental Protection Committee.
The Coastal Zone Management permit allows expansion of the existing dock and construction of a floating dive platform for swimmers at the small, privately owned island located between St. Thomas and St. John.
Committee chair Adlah "Fonsie" Donastorg said he understood the need for the project to allow for safer transfer to and from boats of visitors renting the villa on the island. Committee members had expressed concern about the project affecting turtles and seagrass beds, but these were satisfactorily addressed, a release from Donastorg's office said.
