PETRUS NEGOTIATING FOR NEW CEMETERY

Sen. Allie-Allison Petrus will provide the details Thursday of an arrangement he has negotiated for additional burial space on St. Thomas.
Petrus will outline the plan, which requires the support of the executive and legislative branches of government, in a media briefing at the proposed site on St. Thomas' East End.
Given the Western Cemetery's limits, Petrus said he felt it necessary to take the initiative.
"This site is just about certain," he said Wednesday noting that, "the only thing to block this from happening is a no vote from my colleagues."
He said the arrangement involves 10 acres of real estate on the southeastern tip of St. Thomas, in the general vicinity of the Sugar Bay resort.
"Of the 10 acres, 2.5 will be earmarked for veterans burials."
When asked about the cost of the agreement, Petrus, responded, "The public will be rather pleased to find out that this comes at absolutely no cost to the government."
The briefing will take place at 10 a.m.
