Attorneys for former Gov. Roy L. Schneider and Justice Department prosecutors have called a joint press conference for Thursday to announce that the case against Schneider has been resolved.
No one would give any specifics.
Attorney General Iver Stridiron would say only that the press conference was called to discuss the "resolution" of the case. Government prosecutor Douglas Sprotte said he could not comment until Thursday, and an employee of Joseph Arellano, one of Schneider's attorneys, said she had no details.
The press conference is called for 10 a.m. in the courtyard of the Territorial Court building on St. Thomas.
A statement from the law offices of Campbell, Arellano and Rich announced the joint news conference. Arellano and New York lawyer Stephen Ivan Fisher are representing Schneider in a 14-count information brought against him by the government for fraud, conspiracy and making false statements.
Three top aides in the Schneider administration were also charged in the case.
On March 2, Schneider and former acting Finance Commissioner Dean Wallace pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Last Thursday, Schneider's former executive assistant, Maureen Bryan, and the former director of administration and finance at Government House, Alvin Battiste, also pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
