YOUTHS FACE ASSAULT CHARGES IN SCHOOL BEATING

Two 17-year-olds accused of attacking a Central High School staffer with a broomstick Thursday face assault charges.
According to police, a student who was suspended from school early Thursday returned to the campus with a friend and physically attacked a staff member in the registrar’s office. Because of the assault, Friday’s classes were called off.
The unidentified staff member, a woman, was taken to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital for observation and later released, police said.
Apparently, the victim was not who the youths had come looking for. But when she blocked their entrance she was beaten.
Because of the incident, Central High Vice Principal Darrel Richards said school administrators will strictly enforce student identification and uniform policies when school resumes on Monday.
"Under no circumstances will students who are in violation of the policies be allowed on campus," Richards said.
