SINGERS' SPRING CONCERT LYRICALLY UPLIFTING

St. Ursula's Church in Cruz Bay was lyrically lifted with the classical sounds of the St. John Singers, Las Tres Amigas, composer Chris Clark, organist Albert Lynch and conductor/pianist John Cahill in concert on Monday, March 13.
The St. John Singers, 19 women in white, first offered "songs for spring," such as the Introit for Lent by Orlando Gibbons and "Now is the Month of Maying" by Thomas Morley, and several traditional folksongs.
Lynch played Clark's composition "Fanfare and Fantasy" and "My Heart Will Go On" by James Horner as solo pieces in addition to accompanying the choral group.
The voices of Tres Amigas Sandraann Massac, Jacqueline Bergland and Wendy Joseph, who also sing pop and Caribbean music at various nightspots, blended vividly on operatic selections from "The Magic Flute" and "The Marriage of Figaro," with Cahill providing accompaniment on piano.
For the latter part of the program, the Singers gave a lively rendering of Vivaldi's Gloria. They were joined by Las Tres Amigas on the Laudamus te, Domine Deus and Qui seses ad dexteram Patris portions of the work.
The concert was funded in part by a grant from the V.I. Council on the Arts.
