MID-AFTERNOON SHOOTING INJURES ONE MAN

A mid-afternoon shooting Thursday near the Domino Gas station on Centerline Road sent one man to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the wrist and triggered a police manhunt for a suspect.
It was not clear whether the victim, Jabari Stridiron, was the target of a drive-by shooting or was an innocent bystander who was caught in the crossfire.
Police units were dispatched to the Vitraco Mall area shortly after 2 p.m. to reports of shots fired, but by that time Stridiron was already at the Roy L. Schneider Hospital and the suspect was making his getaway from the scene.
Preliminary information had police searching along the avenue in Sugar Estate for a suspect who fled to an abandoned building at the rear of the Kmart store in Lockhart Gardens. But later other citizens reported seeing the sole suspect changing his clothes near the shopping center and then fleeing on foot toward the Pearson Gardens Housing Community.
A while later, more information came in to police that the getaway car from the shooting was involved in a hit-and-run and that the vehicle was headed towards the area behind the hospital. A black Honda, believed to be the getaway car, was found in a parking lot near Fortress Self-Storage.
The suspect, toting a chrome handgun, remained at large late Thursday night.
The victim's injuries were termed not life-threatening by sources at the RLS Hospital on Thursday afternoon.
