EMPLOYERS SAW GROUNDHOG SHADOWS

On Feb. 2 the territory did not have snow, but Groundhog Day, had lots of the critters peeking over the shoulders of local public and private sector employees as Virgin Islands' Promise celebrated Ground Hog Job Shadow Day.
The new organization, spearheaded by Sen. Judy Gomez, is an affiliate of retired Gen. Colin Powell's initiative, America's Promise, an organization dedicated to helping youth.
More than 100 students from public and parochial high schools were paired with employers and employees in the workplace to see the correlation between academics and the working world.
Gomez thanked the numerous private businesses and governmental agencies who provided shadowing experiences for the young people.
Many of the students gathered information that could hlep them in making decisions about pursuing a career of interest, Gomez said.
