THREE TOURISTS MUGGED ON BACK STREET

St. Thomas police are investigating an incident Thursday afternoon on Back Street where three tourists were mugged and their bags stolen by their assailants.
Deputy Police Chief Theodore Carty reported that a struggle ensued between the tourists and the two attackers. The women were beat down to the ground before their bags were stolen. The suspects described only as two black males fled on foot toward Synagogue Hill.
Carty said no injuries were reported and police investigators are seeking the suspects in the 3 p.m. incident. He encouraged anyone with information to contact police at 774-4050 or emergency 911.
