Y2K – WE'RE AS PREPARED AS WE CAN BE

Roy McFarlane, special technological assistant to the governor, now serving as the territory's Y2K coordinator, said Thursday that "as of now, all our critical systems are under control. We are as prepared as we can be at this time."
Working closely with the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency, McFarlane's office monitors all systems critical to a smooth transition into the year 2000. He will be at the VITEMA headquarters over the new year, along with representatives of all critical government departments.
Commenting on the crux of the Y2K problem, McFarlane summed it up in a nutshell: "Nobody has been there before."
He said he doesn't want to alarm anybody, but he does want the public to be aware of potential problems.
Early Saturday, Jan.1, his office will be issuing an update on the territory's post Y2K status.
