WAPA FOCUSING ON ST. CROIX REPAIRS

A cadre of WAPA personnel from the St. Thomas-St. John district was on St. Croix Monday to assist with the recovery of the electrical distribution system.
Gregory Willocks, WAPA’s assistant executive director for St. Croix, said at a VITEMA briefing over this weekend that primarily linemen were being dispatched to work in the hardest-hit areas.
"The ultimate goal is to expedite the time period in which power will be restored on St. Croix," Willocks told the meeting, which was attended by Gov. Charles Turnbull and other emergency planners.
The WAPA men and equipment from St. Thomas were not dispatched sooner, he said, because they were needed to complete repairs to the system on that island.
Willocks anticipates that the authority will publish a feeder-restoration schedule for St. Croix.
"The schedule will be a blueprint of sorts for restoration, it will be modified as repairs are completed."
He anticipates complete restoration of St. Croix, "in a couple of weeks, if not sooner."
