FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR JUDGE ALMERIC CHRISTIAN ANNOUNCED

Mourners have been invited to pay final respects to Judge Almeric L. Christian on St. Thomas and St. Croix Monday and Tuesday prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
Christian, 79, former chief judge of the District Court, died Sept. 1 after a long illness.
The viewing on St. Thomas will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at the Federal Building.
On St. Croix there will be a viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Almeric L. Christian Federal Building, named for the judge in 1994.
The final viewing will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Parish Hall of St. John's Episcopal Church in Christiansted, followed by the funeral service at the church.
Christian will be buried at the Christiansted cemetery.
Tributes and condolences came in all week as Virgin Islanders remembered Christian with respect and fondness.
LaVerne Ragster, acting president of the University of the Virgin Islands, said on behalf of Orville Kean, president of UVI, and his wife, "Judge Christian was a man of high principles and a mentor to many of our fine lawyers and jurists. His legacy of wisdom and his commitment to making our world a better place will long be remembered."
Sen. Roosevelt David said he was particularly impressed by the fact that Christian's social status never prevented him from interacting with ordinary folks, "like you and me."
And former Gov. Alexander A. Farrelly said, "We have lost a brilliant legal scholar and a trial judge par excellence. I have lost a dear and cherished friend. "
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contributions be made to the Almeric L. Christian Scholarship Fund, c/o the Virgin Islands Bar Association, P.O. Box 4108, Kingshill, V.I. 00851-4699.
