BERRY SAYS PNR TO SUPPLY SIBILLY DATA

Sen. Lorraine Berry says the Planning and Natural Resources Department has promised to send her follow-up reports on "all aspects of parental concern" regarding the water contamination at Joseph Sibilly School.
She has been assured she will receive "a full and honest report" from PNR, she said in a release Thursday, and, once she has it, she "will not hesitate" to make it public.
Testing in the last year has found several toxic contaminants in the school's water supply. The start-up of classes was delayed from last week until this past Monday while cisterns on the property were cleaned and refilled.
Based on the data she has so far, Berry said, there are two questions that must be answered: "Where did the water come from, and how long has it been part of the school's water supplies?"
Berry's office has been in contact with Caribbean Safe Water Laboratories on St. Thomas and the National Testing Laboratories in Michigan. One of her staff members has met with concerned members of the North Side community served by the school.
One area where investigation is needed, she said, is the new roof installed on the school following Hurricane Marilyn, to determine whether there might be "residual matter" that "may have inadvertently entered the water supply."
