U.S. Virgin Islands advertisements are scheduled to appear in 14 major U.S.
consumer and trade publications beginning this fall.
To get the most out of that effort, the Department of Tourism is urging members of the territorys tourism industry to place their own ads in the same publications.
"We want to maximize this promotional effort by encouraging the private sector to piggyback on the advertising placements," said Acting Tourism Commissioner Michael A. Bornn. "Members of the hotel and tourism associations, chambers of commerce, airlines and other private companies can join with us to reach millions of readers."
The advertising schedule includes placements in Black Enterprise, Boating, Bridal Guide, Caribbean Travel and Life, Essence, Food and Wine, Islands, The New Yorker (special feature on St. Croix), Scuba Diving, Travel and Leisure, Black Meetings and Tourism, Corporate and Incentive Travel, Recommend, and Travel Weekly.
"This is an interim campaign that will allow us to maintain a presence in the U.S. market. In spite of the economic crunch that has severely effected our advertising campaign, our schedule provides broad-based coverage that involves several niche markets," Bornn said.
