SECOND CYBER PAPER LAUNCHES

St. Croix now has its own Source.
St. Croix Source, the U.S. Virgin Islands' latest information outlet, is taking the Big Island in a new direction — news online all the time.
Following the success of the 8-month-old St. Thomas Source, the territory's first Internet-based newspaper, the St. Croix Source will bring the latest in news and community activities to St. Croix residents free, without any filters or bias.
Using the Internet, the St. Croix Source is able to inform its readers immediately. And by using the same technology, news and information goes worldwide, allowing Virgin Islanders living abroad, those interested in St. Croix or potential visitors to know what's happening as soon as it happens. That means no costly subscriptions to local newspapers that arrive weeks after the news has made headlines.
The St. Thomas Source is receiving upwards of 30,000 hits a day. In the Internet world, that's a lot. The publisher of both Sources, long-time St. Thomas resident Shaun Pennington, fully intends to repeat the success of the St. Thomas publication on St. Croix.
"St. Croix Source is a work in progress. It is designed to be a community paper that will carry territory-wide news, but will focus on issues and news that specifically affect St. Croix. As it grows so will the local news, commentary and information," said Pennington.
The St. Croix Source's advisors are Penny Feuerzeig and Frank Jordan, both with decades of experience in the world of journalism.
Jamie Bate, former managing editor at the St. Croix Avis and environmental journalist in California, is the managing editor of the publication.
Along with its local and international news sections, the St. Croix Source features 26 different categories. Those range from local business to up-to-date calendar listings for any activity in the community.
St. Croix Source, like St. Thomas Source, is an edition of OnePaper Inc., an innovative company providing on-line community newspapers. OnePaper provides the platform and the national feed. Local publishers provide the local news and information for their communities.
While the St. Croix Source's news coverage will be in depth and straight forward, members of the community are encouraged to contribute and submit their thoughts, views, information and upcoming activities on a regular basis.
St. Croix now has a dedicated site for news and information on the Internet. And St. Croix residents have a place to read the news and share their views — online all the time.
For more information, contact Shaun Pennington at 777-8144, e-mail
source@viaccess.net or call Jamie Bate at 779-3242 or email jambate@hotmail.com. Faxes can be directed to, for the time being, 777-8136.
The Source is on-line and therefore e-mail is the first line of communication.
