YOUNG VIRGIN ISLAND TALENT TO PERFORM IN ITALY

St. John steel pan player Victor Provost who has toured the mainland's east coast and performed in Denmark, Germany, France and Switzerland will take his considerable talents to Italy's world renowned Umbria Jazz
Festival this week.
Carlo Pagnotta artistic director of Umbria Jazz heard the youthful musician while vacationing in St. John last February and immediately booked him for this year's Festival — the 26th annual.
The 18-year-old Provost spent the summers of 1997 and 1998 in Port of Spain, Trinidad, birthplace of the steel band, where he studied under steel pan master Rudy Wells. When St. John's "Steel Unlimited" band disbanded after hurricane Marilyn Provost pursued a career as a solo performer and to embellish that pursuit has studied composition, sequencing and mixing. He has made several appearances at the Reichhold Center and the Tillet Gardens and is a regular at St. John's Caneel Bay Resort.
Provost will enter the University of Pittsburgh in September but from July 10 through July 20 he will be playing and rubbing shoulders with many of the world's greatest Jazz artists at Umbria Jazz in Perugia, Italy.
