DUMP CONTRACTOR UNPAID; HEARINGS CALLED

S and S Service Corp., the contractor that services the Bovoni dump, still had not received any payment as of Monday afternoon on money it's owed by the government.
Owner Siewdath Sookram had pulled his 30 employees from the job two weeks ago to protest the government's failure to pay him some $600,000 to $700,000.
With the money dispute still unresolved, Sen.
Adlah "Foncie" Donastorg has scheduled public hearings on trash issues early in April on both St. Thomas and St. Croix, according to Nicole Bollentini of Donastorg's office.
Sookram said he met last week with Harry Thompson Jr., acting commissioner of Public Works, but despite indications that
Thompson was working on getting Sookram paid, Sookram said Monday night he still had received no money.
Sookram said Thompson told him he had "sent everything to Justice" and then it would be sent to Government House. He did not know why the paperwork went to the Justice Department.
"I can't continue," Sookram said, but indicated he was awaiting a call from Thompson's assistant.
Donastorg voiced concern about not have trash management at the Bovoni dump, saying, "We cannot afford an explosion of the
rodent and fly population. We cannot afford another fire. We are talking about protecting public health here."
Donastorg chairs the Senate Committee on Planning and Environmental Protection.
