NO RULING YET ON WILLIAMS BAIL

Police Officer Ian E. Williams Jr. remains in jail in Puerto Rico after U.S. Magistrate Judge Geoffrey Barnard failed to rule Friday on a request to reconsider granting him bail.
The policeman was arrested earlier this month on charges of witness-tampering, which is a federal offense, and third-degree assault. He allegedly threatened his common-law wife while holding a gun to her head.
In Friday's hearing, U.S. Attorney Curtis Gomez argued that Williams' father, Ian Williams Sr., would not be a good third-party custodian for his son since he, too, had been accused of domestic violence, according to the Daily News.
As evidence, Gomez showed the court a restraining order issued in 1988 against the senior Williams because he allegedly threatened to beat his former wife, Matilda Williams and burn down her house.
Williams Sr. denied ever being accused of domestic violence.
Matilda Williams, however, testified that she had been abused.
Brendaly Nazario, the police officer's common-law wife, has claimed throughout the proceedings that she was the victim of domestic violence for eight years while living with him. They have four children.
Gomez dismissed concerns that Williams Jr. might be in jeopardy if he were held among the general jail population in the Puerto Rico facility, saying the officer is being segregated in order to protect him.
It is not known when Barnard will rule on the request for bail.
