DONASTORG ASKS DPW TO FINISH NADIR BRIDGE

Sen. Adlah "Foncie" Donastorg has asked the Department of Public Works to take action immediately to complete the Nadir bridge project. The Nadir Bridge and Gut project, which was developed to avoid flooding in the Nadir area, was federally funded.
The project began two years ago, but has never been completed. It is the butt of jokes in the community, being referred to as the "bridge to nowhere" and the "bridge over the river why."
Donastorg called it "ridiculous" that the bridge is sitting unused. He said it must be completed by the 1999 hurricane season when flooding becomes a serious problem.
Donastorg said it would be laughable if it wasn't "such a dangerous situation."
He put his request in writing to acting Commissioner of DPW Harold Thompson, asking for details regarding completion to be forwarded to his office.
