FEDS GIVE V.I. $289,000 FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION

The Planning and Natural Resources Department's division for archaeology and historic preservation has been awarded $288,853 in an annual grant from the National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Fund.
The money will be used to establish ways of identifying, evaluating and protecting the territory's historic and archaeological resources, Delegate Donna Christian-Christensen said in announcing the grant.
“This grant will provide our government with the necessary resources to preserve the rich, cultural heritage that these islands possess," Christensen said.
The grant has to be matched by local money or in-kind contributions, Christen's release said.
