The V.I. Police Department has a theme song, "Don't Run, Don't Hide," written by local musicians Fusion Band for use in the government television channel documentary, "V.I. Cops."
Who picks up the tab?
It is with regret that the Senators were unable to work with Governor John deJongh Jr. at critical deadlines months ago. As HOVENSA has delivered its verdict, announcing that it too has joined the ranks to layoff its refinery oil workers due too deep losses of 1.3 billion dollars...
This is a lesson learned....
How long will the Virgin Islands Local Government stay afloat?
127.5 million dollars in future losses, now how many government employees are going to be laid off?....
Perhaps, more than we care to admit...
June 30, 2011 was a critical deadline the Senators missed....
Dear Source,
This is an open letter to Governor de Jongh and our Honorable VI Senators:
I, too, am most disappointed and concerned about, once again, our Government using St. John's capital Improvement fees to "haul garbage".
The fact that we are once again reverting to this- is an indication of a lack of poor planning and lack of problem-solving done for the Island of St. John.
Position Wanted!!!
Here might a solution for Republicans and Democrats to solve this crisis together over the next few days. The ceiling is roughly 2.5 trillion. The democrats put into a house or senate bill for 1.25 trillion dollars in ending tax loop holes or other revenue raising measures and the Republicans put in the same measure for 1.25 trillion dollars in spending cuts both for over a period of 10 years. A 50/50 split. Both sides agree that the other side of the isle can not change their revenue or spending measures before they send it to the President to sign.
I remember as a teen, you had two other options after graduation, if you didn't go to college or got a job; it was either the Army or Prison.
Both options, then, offered opportunities after leaving, if that individual took advantage of the training and educational rehabilitation programs.
During the Vietnam War, some of those convicted of misdemeanor crimes were sometimes given the option to serve in the arm services or serve their time, in other words, Jail or The War.
When they annonced pay cuts in Athens they burned the Fiance building and rioted. Our government employees are making 8% less then they did before yet they show up for work - save for a law suit. We know the situation we are in: rum, oil and tourism. Our life blood is drying up. What are we do? Drinking more rum isn't the answer. We need to keep the money here, velocity of money is more important then ever. The government needs to quickly support local businesses, and new ones. Technical expertise, loans and fasttrack license approval.
I was disappointed to hear the news that Commissioner Nouvelle Francis would be leaving this VIPD important leadership post.
Nouvelle Francis has been an important part of our process of "upgrading" and improvement in VIPD for many years now- as Chief of Police under Commissioner Elton Lewis; Ass't Commissioner under Commissioner James McCall and in last post as Commissioner under the Gov. John de Jongh Administration.
What's the status on the VI Constitution ? Is it dead in the water.
